Backup Method for 2FA

If you use 2-factor authentication, and your mobile device is lost, stolen, or traded in, then you will need a backup option to access your Encyro account. The backup must be established before such an event. If you do not have a backup, you will not be able to login. While you could contact support, if the support team cannot distinguish you from someone else trying to get into your account, then you may lose access to your account.

Based on the above considerations, Encyro strongly encourages you to enable a backup option for your 2FA. It is your responsibility to set up a backup option.

When setting up SMS 2FA, you are reminded to also set up Authenticator App 2FA (if not already set up). This helps ensure that you can continue to access your account even if you cannot receive text messages due to bad coverage or texts being incorrectly blocked as spam.

When setting up Authenticator App 2FA, you are asked to select one of the following backup options:

    • Using an authenticator app with cloud backup: With this option, if the device with your authenticator app is not available, you can use the authenticator app’s cloud backup to restore the authenticator app with your codes on an alternative device. Then you can use that other device to get the code needed for login.

      • One authenticator app that has cloud backup is Authy. Read these instructions for how to enable the cloud backup in Authy. You must enable your authenticator app’s cloud backup as it is not enabled by default.

      • Note that Google Authenticator does not offer cloud backup, as of this writing.

    • Setting up the authenticator app on 2 or more devices: If you choose this option, you will be able to use any of those devices to get your Encyro authentication code. To set this up, simply scan the QR code with all of those devices when setting up authenticator app 2FA. You may use any authenticator app, including Google Authenticator, for this option.

    • Additionally using SMS 2FA: In the event that you are not able to use your Authenticator app, it is likely that you can still receive text messages at your existing phone number (by obtaining a new phone with the old number). If you select this option, then after setting up authenticator app 2FA, you must login again and then set up SMS 2FA.
